NSW: Off-duty lifesaver rescues children at unpatrolled beach

An off-duty lifesaver has saved a toddler from drowning at an unpatrolled beach on
the New South Wales south coast.

The female lifesaver pulled a two-year-old child and a four-year-old child from the
water at Barlings Beach at Tomakin tonight.

Surf Life Saving Australia Far South Coast Branch spokesman ANDREW EDMUNDS says the
two-year-old .. who was later taken to hospital .. was pulled from the water facedown
and not breathing.

He says another child .. an 18-month-old .. was also on the beach.

He says the children's mother was there .. but not supervising the youngsters.

Mr EDMUNDS says quick thinking from the lifesaver saved the child.
