Fed: Jews take action against SA Holocaust denier

The Australian Jewish community has launched Federal Court action against a Holocaust
revisionist who was convicted in Germany of defaming the memory of the dead.

The Executive Council of Australian Jewry is seeking to have a Human Rights and Equal
Opportunities Commission order against South Australian man FREDERICK TOBEN enforced.

Last year, the commission ordered him to apologise to the Council's national vice-president
JEREMY JONES.

And Mr TOBEN also was ordered to remove Holocaust revision material from his Adelaide
Institute website.

But the council says he hasn't complied with either order and it says it has no alternative
but to take legal action.

Mr TOBEN, who was jailed in Germany for defaming the memory of the dead, says he hasn't
complied because the commission's procedures were flawed.

And he says the principle of free speech is at stake.

A Federal Court directions hearing for the case is set down for May.
